Show Notes
Interview Questions/Topics
- Your LinkedIn indicates that you were a TEFL teacher for over 18 years and that you (somewhat concurrently) did some volunteer and commercial freelance web developer work for about 10 years before starting as an Educator at Scrimba in December 2021
- Question: Why not transition fully into web development earlier in your career?
- Question: Between your TEFL teachings and your job at Scrimba, the constant is that you’re an educator - are you passionate about teaching others new skills? If so, does this take precedence over web development (would you teach any topic)?
- Question: I’ve seen many people suggest that aspiring web developers should share their knowledge on social media, as they learn it, to try build up some social media following and also help educate their peers. As an educator and web developer, what are your thoughts on this? Can newbies really help educate their colleagues?
- AI is everywhere and web development is no exception. We just saw the anticipated (or maybe feared) release of OpenAI’s Sora video generator and we’re only a few years into AI hitting the mainstream.
- Question: What is your overall stance on AI? Do you use it? If yes, how so? (Personally, professionally, or both!)
- Question: We’ve suggested on the show that AI is a great web development teacher. Not that it should replace a real instructor or course, but instead that it’s another “person” or mentor that you can reach out to at all hours for immediate feedback. Do you agree with this stance and suggestion?
- Question: Is there anything in AI that you’re against? Is there anything in AI you’re looking forward to?
- The overhiring during COVID, subsequent layoffs, and now rise of AI have left some aspiring web developers hopeless that they’ll ever get a job.
- Question: What’s your stance on the state of the industry? Does it still make sense to get into web development in 2024/2025?`
- Question: If someone is ready to get a job today, how would you guide them on entering their first developer position?
- The holiday season is upon us and so is Scrimba’s annual JavaScriptmas
- Question: What is JavaScriptmas?
- Question: How can the community get involved with JavaScriptmas?
